Adobe announces permanent shift to hybrid work for its employees

Adobe has announced plans for its employees’ post-pandemic return to work, and its goals place it alongside other tech giants that have embraced hybrid and remote work as the new normal.

Adobe said it arrived at its decision to be hybrid based on inter-departmental and cross-site focus groups, employee interviews and employee surveys. All of this work has led Adobe to conclude that hybrid work would be best suited for its employees, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility of 100% remote work either.

By default, Chen said, flexibility will be an option for Adobe employees, who can choose to work part-time remotely and be in the office the other half. Meetings will be intentionally mixed, with some workers in the meeting room and others virtual. In-person gatherings will be more focused and collaborative in nature, Chen said.

Noting that one size does not fit all, Chen also said remote working at Adobe will expand to accommodate individual cases, where the company has established criteria and guidelines that employees at. distance will have to respect. These guidelines are currently being tested in the United States and will be rolled out to employees around the world later this year. Overall, Chen said, Adobe expects to double its remote worker population by correcting the wrinkles in its new remote work policies.

Adobe offices around the world will begin opening this summer in the United States, with global offices opening as the local coronavirus situation improves. In order to facilitate hybrid work on an ongoing basis, Adobe is also launching a new digital campus application called Adobe Life, which has specific digital campuses for each Adobe office location. Digital campuses, Chen said, serve “as a hub for news and information organized by location, including orientation, conference room reservations, and pre-ordering cafe meals.”

Chen also said that these changes are just the beginning and that “[Adobe recognizes] that we have a lot to learn and that changing the way we work will be a long-term transformation. ”
