UnitedHealthcare hopes Apple Fitness + A Day keeps doctors away
UnitedHealthcare became the first health insurance company to offer its members a free one-year subscription to Apple Fitness +, the premium fitness program focused on the Apple Watch.
Apple Fitness + launched in December 2020 encapsulating 10 types of workout and covering a wide range of durations (5 to 45 minutes) and disciplines (HITT to yoga). The library includes 1,200 workouts recorded in 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) and, starting next week, the list will grow even further with: Pilates, guided meditation and a new link preparing users for the snow season that will be led by the Olympic gold medal. the winning skier Ted Ligety.
Other new features announced later this year include an expansion to 15 countries with subtitles in six languages, as well as group workouts where up to 32 users can sync to the same session live via the technology. Apple’s SharePlay.
Of particular note is the movement towards more support for mental health. Fitness + previously offered “Conscious Recovery Times” but has now added sessions of up to 20 minutes in nine guided meditation themes. The watchOS 8 update also changes the Breathe app to Mindfulness with a new option called Reflect, in which the user is prompted to seek calm and a positive state of mind.
UnitedHealthcare offer starts November 1st. The previously launched insurance company UnitedHealthcare Motion, an incentive program that rewards users with medical expense coverage by meeting various criteria for movement with their wearable device.
