Kristen Gamboa: Senior Business Developer for Los Lunas, inspired by her mother

Kristen Gamboa is the lead economic developer for the village of Los Lunas, assuming the post in December of last year. Gamboa grew up in El Paso, Texas, before heading north to Albuquerque to earn a degree in business administration and international management. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2011. She now lives in Peralta with her three “boisterous” dogs, a cat and four goldfish. Gamboa is the daughter of Al and Martha Gamboa, both residents of New Mexico, and she is engaged to Elliot Fox.

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?

A

“This is my meditation space, so it means I’m mentally preparing for the events of the day ahead, brainstorming a new strategy for an upcoming project / problem, or begging myself not to.” forgetting to stop by and pick something up from the grocery store later is a big part of my day.

What myth about your profession would you like to break?

A

“Economic development is not just about retail like restaurants and stores. Believe me, I care about these things too, but my role is to help already established businesses grow and develop, market and attract new economically based businesses, and develop a regional economic strategy that benefits all of Valencia County because we all live, shop, eat, have families and friends all over central New Mexico. ”

How were you in high school?

A

“I have participated in a whole bunch of clubs and organizations like Honors Society, Key Club, PAWS and Senior Exec. Plus, I took regular and AP classes and stepped outside of my social circle to mingle with all the different cliques in high school.
