Mississauga, Ontario, June 23, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Today, Revera, a leader in the retirement home industry, publishes Unforgettable Ian, a film about a remarkable resident of Revera’s Stoneridge Manor long-term care home in Carleton Place, Ont.
In 2019, before the start of the pandemic, Revera set out to produce a film on life in long-term care as part of our Age is over program to celebrate the elderly and fight ageism. The story centers on a resident, Ian Doig, who lived an extraordinary life as a veteran in the Canadian military and later in the Canadian diplomatic service. The film chronicles his journey as he learns to live with dementia and his experiences after moving into the Ottawa-area long-term care home.
Unforgettable Ian offers Canadians the opportunity to gain a better understanding of life in long-term care. To watch the premiere, join us today at 12 p.m. ET on Facebook or watch the film at Reveraliving.com.
“While Ian’s individual story is unique and his life adventurous, it is universally known how he and his family deal with changes and challenges,” said Thomas Wellner, President and CEO of Revera. “Revera long-term care homes and retirement homes are full of amazing people with their own amazing stories. Every day, we strive to make sense of the lives of our residents and provide them with opportunities to help them lead meaningful lives.
Some of Ian’s biggest challenges awaited him when the pandemic arrived in Canada and entered his home, Stoneridge Manor. Ian himself is a COVID-19 survivor. This documentary is unique in that it captures life in a long-term care home in Canada during the pandemic.
The film is dedicated to Revera employees, including those at Stoneridge Manor who cared for Ian and his fellow citizens as they battled the pandemic. The film recognizes the compassion and commitment that employees in the retirement home sector have shown in the most difficult of circumstances. Revera joins Canadians in mourning the residents of long-term care facilities and retirees who have been lost to the pandemic.
“The impacts of the pandemic have been incredibly difficult for our residents, their families, and our team members and their families. Unforgettable Ian provides insight into Ian’s life as he learns to live with dementia in the midst of the pandemic, ”says Wellner. “We hope this film will strengthen viewers’ understanding of long-term care as they see the beautiful and difficult times our residents and their families go through, with the support of our staff, every day.”
